Job Description
Our Macraes IT team are on the search for an IT Officer. This is a mixed role which includes assisting the Support Analyst to resolve more complex issues as they are reported, as well as completing some Systems Administration tasks, both in-person and remotely. Additionally, you will develop systems administration skills so that there is cover support available for critical systems, particularly in virtualisation, networking and databases.
Working between the Macraes mine site (2 days per week) and the Dunedin city office, this role works a 9‑day fortnight structure of 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off, 7:00am — 4:30pm, daily.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Work primarily as a Macraes Level 2 resource but also support and provide cover for our Level 1 and Level 3 team members.
- Develop knowledge in supporting a range of key systems with a goal to become the primary support resource for some of these systems.
- Assist with completing internal and operations-led project work.
- Assist the Support Analyst to assess, complete or re-assign tasks as they come in through the ticketing system and other methods.
- Configure and install new systems and IT hardware for the Macraes mine.
- Work with the Support Analyst to ensure that Incidents and Requests are completed within a reasonable timeframe.
- Be the primary in-person support resource when the Support Analyst is off-site.
- Participate in the Macraes IT after hours on-call roster.
- Assist the team with maintaining a reliable fleet of IT hardware on site, including identifying hardware in need of proactive replacement and performing basic repairs.
- Assist the Senior IT Officer with supporting the site IT network, database administration and production systems.
- Maintain and support the site virtualised and physical servers, in cooperation with the rest of the team.
- Assist the IT Supervisor with gathering project progress information to feed up to the Senior Leadership Team.
Qualifications
- A Tertiary-level degree or similar qualification in IT or Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
- Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
- Full New Zealand working rights / unrestricted working Visa is required for this position.
Experience:
- 2+ years working within a team-based IT support environment
- Experience supporting Windows Server and Linux physical and virtualised servers would be an advantage
- Experience supporting a Cisco-based IT network would be an advantage
- Experience supporting SQL Server databases would be an advantage
