Job Description

Haile Gold Mine located in South Carolina is the largest gold mine on the East Coast of America. Our employees are at the heart of all we do. The purpose of the role is to manage the construction of the Haile Leach Expansion and Paste Plant at Haile and ensure compliance with the Project’s HSE Policies and Procedures; manage the activities to minimize their effect on Operations; ensure construction activities are completed to scope, on time and within budget; ensure project reporting is carried out as per the requirements of the Project Director.

  • Manage the planning, execution and coordination of construction activities with site operations and maintenance teams
  • Establish and manage all contractors and suppliers to safely and efficiently achieve the schedule and budget objectives of the Project
  • Select appropriate infrastructure and ensure installation meets specifications, standards and quality requirements
  • Manage strategic sourcing, tender scoping, contract selection, contract award and all Requests for Information (RFI)
  • Develop engineering scope of work, work packages and Project Execution Plans for stakeholder approval
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, clients and regulatory authorities to ensure business needs are catered for throughout project lifecycle
  • Deliver successful project outcomes measured in terms of time, cost and quality
  • Appoint and supervise external engineers, consultants and engineering services as required
  • Lead and direct consultants, contractors and suppliers to achieve project deliverables
  • Ensure all HSE compliance, promote safety awareness and conduct field leadership safety interactions with work groups
  • Report all incidents via line management, lead incident investigations and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions
  • Participate in project risk assessments and actively monitor and implement control measures
  • Maintain strong working relationships with operations groups to support project development, execution and handover
  • Coordinate preparation of capital works documentation including User Requirements Specifications, Project Execution Plans, Scopes of Work, Material Take Offs and Close Out Reports
  • Lead design review processes and coordinate interfaces between Project, Operations and other business activities
  • Maintain daily records of works management including incidents, progress, delays and milestone achievement
  • Participate in project schedule development and provide timely reporting on progress and any events that may adversely affect schedule
  • Participate in cost estimates development, manage cost tracking and actively identify cost savings opportunities without compromising safety, schedule or quality
  • Ensure AFEs, Professional Service Agreements and Purchase Orders are in place with appropriate approvals prior to work commencement
  • Ensure appropriate QA/QC documentation and inspection test plans are in place, conduct QC inspections and compile structured handover packs upon project completion

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see. 
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 60 pounds) during the course of the workday. 
  • Work is in a mine setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity. 
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in the mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.

Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced MS Office and MS Project skills 
  • Advanced professional report writing and cost reporting ability 
  • Able to troubleshoot issues with installation and system operation

Experience:

  • Must have detailed experience in mechanical/​electrical industrial construction and commissioning 
  • 10 years + Mechanical or Electrical experience 
  • 5 years + in a multi-discipline leadership role 
  • 10 years + Construction/​Commissioning Experience 
  • Experience in precious/​base metals processing facilities 
  • Dealing with regulatory entities 
  • 5 years QA/QC experience 

Education, Qualifications, Licenses:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree (or similar relevant tertiary qualification) a plus. 
  • Project Management qualifications (e.g. PMP)
