We aim to respect, honour, protect and support biodiversity and the natural environments where we work by identifying, mitigating, minimizing, and managing our site based on environmental impacts and our company footprint. We are committed to a carbon neutral future in line with the position of the New Zealand government and the Hauraki District Council. We are developing a plan to continue to reduce the emissions intensity of our operations. This will be backed by practical short-term actions and investment in studies to determine the most effective means of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The climate change impacts of OceanaGold Waihi compare favourably to the global gold industry. At 0.195 tonnes of CO2e per ounce of gold, greenhouse gas emissions at OceanaGold Waihi are significantly lower than the industry standard of 0.800 tonnes of CO2e per ounce of gold. The Waihi North Project will see this figure improve further to 0.148 tonnes of CO2e per ounce of gold. Furthermore, the climate change impacts of the Waihi North Project are significantly lesser than many national industries based on tonnes of CO2e per $GDP.
