3-AD006.00 SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT WAIHI NORTH PROJECT Oceana Gold New Zealand Limited WSP June 2022 36 Figure 9: Current and Forecasted WNP Workforce Given the scale of the project, as well as the specialised skills required to support it, it is anticipated that a proportion of this workforce will be sourced from outside of the local area. These new OGNZL employees are likely to move into the local area (Waihi, and the other towns located within a 30 km radius) with their immediate families in order to take up and sustain their roles as part of the WNP workforce. It is difficult to accurately define the extent of population influx into the local area as a result of workforce requirements. Assumptions have been made on (1) the proportion of the workforce that is likely to come from outside of the local area; and (2) the number of additional family members that a new employee is likely to bring with them. The total direct workforce required to support the WNP is an average of 292 over a 17-year period. To calculate the anticipated local workforce participation, the skills profile for a typical year (2030) during the operational life of the project has been reviewed and assumptions made in respect of the roles that are likely to be filled by the local population (Table 10).
