Appendix 3: Vegetation Descriptions for Willows Road Farm and Potential Vent Raise Sites Boffa Miskell Ltd | Waihi North Project | Terrestrial Ecology Values and Effects of the WUG lily, hounds tooth fern and bamboo orchid. The understory is absent, except for Icarus filiforme fern in patches. Vegetation communities present within Vegetation Area 5. Note that this area is not fenced. Vegetation communities present within Vegetation Area 5, note the lack of regeneration in the understory. Vegetation Areas 6 and 7 The margins of the riparian areas in Vegetation Areas 6 and 7 are considered representative of the riparian margins of streams on the property. These areas are closest to the Project footprint, but not expected to be impacted by the proposed works. For most of the site, the streams are not fenced and are heavily grazed as a result. Vegetation present includes thin linear features with a mix of kawakawa (under canopy), manuka, tawa, kohekohe, nikau, karamu, mahoe, wineberry and several fern species. The structure of these riparian areas is greatly impaired through absence of a ground tier and there is little evidence of regeneration of indigenous species due to grazing. The canopy is also mixed and the features are poorly representative of an expected species richness, structure or composition. They do supply shading and organic input functions to the tributaries. Vegetation observed within riparian margins in Vegetation Areas 6 and 7. Vegetation observed within riparian margins in Vegetation Areas 6 and 7. Note the lack of fencing.
