Supporting Technical Assessments

Stantec // Oceana Gold NZ // Transportation Assessment - Waihi North Project 6 does restrict forward sightline for southwest bound vehicles to approximately2 180 m. A stopping sight distance of 180 m corresponds to a safe approach speed (Austroads3) of 105 km/h. SH25 is generally undulating and curvilinear to the northeast of Willows Road which moderates operating speeds on the highway to a free speed of 80-90 km/h. However, it is acknowledged that a long straight about 1.7 km long to the northeast of Willows Road and 0.5 km to the southwest does result in localised higher speeds and it is estimated that 85th percentile operating speeds are in the vicinity of 100 to 110 km/h on the northeast approach to Willows Road and slightly lower on the southwest approach. It is a no exit road and is primarily used to access the underground mines and the processing and tailings disposal area. Baxter Road has a nominal seal width of 7 m. The road is marked with a centre line and edge lines. Baxter Road is in flat terrain and has a curvilinear alignment. Baxter Road incorporates a one-lane bridge located approximately 960 m from its intersection with SH2. Figure 8 and Figure 9 show the current mid-block form of Baxter Road facing west and east respectively.
