SECTION 8 Tailing Storage Facility 3 C:\D Data\GWS C Drive\GWS\Client Files\1344 OGL - WKP\4 Deliverables\WUG Effects Summary\June 2022\WNP Groundwater Effects Summary_Final_Rev_0.docx 29 8. Tailings Storage Facility 3 8.1 Description The proposed TSF3 will be an earth and rockfill embankment structure, like TSF1A and 2, forming an impoundment to store the discharged tailings. At completion the facility would have a footprint of 95 ha and have capacity to contain up to 6 Mm3 of tailings. It would have an embankment crest 20 m-wide with a total length of 1,000 m and is 46 m in height above ground level at 1,155 mRL. TSF3 would have three collection ponds downgradient of the facility. Figure 32 shows the proposed layout for TSF3. Figure 32 Proposed TSF3 Layout (from EGL, 2022) In order to construct TSF3 foundations excavation will be required, removing up to 20 m depth of weak material and create a shear key as shown on Figure 33. Diversion and cut off drains will also be excavated. Dewatering of the shallow groundwater system will be required to construct TSF3. Once preparatory works have finished, the TSF facility will be constructed much like the existing TSFs and will have a liner (HDPE) and leachate collection system.
