Introduction 1.1 Project Description The proposed Waihi North Project (WNP) is a program of works to develop access and provide infrastructure to enable mining of the Wharekiraponga mineral deposit. The key components of the project include: - Wharekiruponga Underground Mine - Dual access tunnels and vent shafts to connect to Willows Farm - Willows Farm portal, access tunnel, Willows rock stockpiles and surface infrastructure - Wharekiruponga access tunnel to Waihi and new portal - Expansion of the Northern Rock Stack - Gladstone Hill open pit mine and tailings storage facility - A new tailing storage facility (TSF3) The location of these is shown on Figures 1 and 2. Each of these project components involves activities that have the potential to affect groundwater, therefore hydrogeological assessments have been undertaken on each of these components.
