Supporting Technical Assessments

Install Water Control Devices 1. PLAN AND PREPARE FOR INSTALLING WATER CONTROL DEVICES 1.1. Roles and Responsibilities Your role on the grout crew, and any person finding the need to intersect water, is to: ▪ comply with timeframe constraints as determined by the Supervisor ▪ conduct efficient planning to ensure effective use of resources ▪ perform pre-start checks of equipment ▪ keep work areas clean and free of hazards ▪ complete tasks accurately, within timeframes and to quality standards ▪ hand-over high quality information to the cross-shift. 1.2. Plan and Prepare for the Shift You must ensure your shift is properly planned to maximise safety and efficiency. Each department shall conduct pre-shift communications meetings, which include PASS. Your supervisor will hand out the daily shift plan. Receive handover information from the off-going shift and plan the job with your supervisor. It is important to fully understand the task allocated to you so you can complete it accurately and on time. Discuss and organise: ▪ location of necessary equipment ▪ job status ▪ job site conditions and hazards ▪ equipment, personnel and materials required ▪ ground conditions ▪ grouting conditions at the face. Obtain instructions from the Supervisor. These may come in various forms, for example the Daily Shift Plan as seen in the below image and information from your cross-shift. Other documentation to obtain at the start of your shift should include the following: FRM- Cover Drilling and Grouting Shift Report – this will be given to you either directly from the driller or your Supervisor FRM- Face Grouting Hole Summary – this will come from your Supervisor. The leading hand may hold these documents, so it is known where water control devices have either already been installed or need to be installed.
