Waihi Emergency Principal Control Plan Approved by: General Manager/SSE Approval Date: 26/03/2021 Next Review:26/03/2022 OceanaGold Waihi WAI-250-PLN-001 Page 12 of 124 2.0 WAIHI SITE Due to the large scale of the various operations over a number of site locations it is important to describe the exact location of an accident or emergency so that assistance and emergency services can respond quickly. OceanaGold NZ Ltd operates the Martha Mine open pit and the Favona Underground Mines in Waihi. We also undertake exploration activities to investigate other areas to determine whether they may contain a viable mineral deposit. The Open Pit and the Underground operations ore is treated at the processing plant situated almost two kilometers from the open pit, beyond the town boundary and in a rural area, adjacent to the underground mine. Water treatment and tailings storage facilities are also situated near the processing plant. With a population of about 4,700 people, the town of Waihi is situated on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The surrounding area supports horticulture and dairy farming. Waihi is an important service centre for these activities, as well as playing an increasing role in tourism. Waihi Township slopes gently down from the foot of Martha Hill to the Ohinemuri River and has an altitude averaging about 90m above sea level. The climate of Waihi is affected by its local topography. The rainfall in Waihi is relatively high, averaging in excess of 2,100 mm/year. The mining licence was granted for the open pit Martha Mine in 1987. The Favona underground operation, began in 2004, has been producing ore from stopes since 2006. Martha and Favona produce, on average, around 100,000 ounces of gold and around 150,000 ounces of silver annually. When the Favona Operation was completed in 2010, the Trio underground operation commenced with similar volume of ounces produced per annum. In 2015 the Correnso underground operation commenced followed by Martha Underground (MUG) in 2021 with similar volume of ounces being predicted per annum. The Operation employs approximately 320 people. This comprises OceanaGold Waihi employees, major contractors and local contractors. The Emergency Management Control Plan includes the following areas: • Martha pit; • All Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF1A, TSF2); • All roads, parking areas and operational working areas; • Baxter’s Rd processing areas, including WTP and associated infrastructure; • All underground areas; • All exploration conducted within the Waihi mining lease; and • Potential to be called to assist local emergency services near to the Waihi area. Emergency Priorities OceanaGold is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and productive work environment. If an emergency situation arises the order of priority is: 1. To reduce and eliminate danger to employees, contractors and the public 2. To reduce and eliminate environmental damage 3. To minimize damage to plant and equipment, loss of material and loss of production
