WKP Visit December 2020 Table 2b. WKP gauging summary. Gaugings by WSP. Note specific Flow Tracker flow values unreliable, so flow range provided. WSP – Furnish Location Date End time (NZST) Flow (L/s) Water Temp °C Method Comments ES1 14-Dec 9.30 17 - 51 - FT Large stream through steep gulley’s either side. Stream made up of local rapids and local deep sections. Reading taken on smooth section with relatively flat stream bed. But one deep section, unavoidable. ES2 14-Dec 10.00 1.5 - Vol Very minor flow. Semi flat slow running stream, with lots of localised rapids. Reading taken with 50L bucket. Tried to capture as much flow as possible but due to nature of flow through and under rocks throughout is difficult. Reading taken approx. 50m upstream of split. ES3 14-Dec 11.00? 9.50 14 - 42 13.5 FT Stream smooth flowing, with minimal heavy rapids, only minor boulders and rocks causing eddies in section. Reading taken in section with smooth flow but deep local sections. ES4 14-Dec 11.50 5 - Vol Steep stream through dense vegetation. Minimal stream banks either side, with mostly steep rapid or slow eddy pools. Flow gauged using 50L bucket in rapids to capture as much flow as possible. Taken approx. 30m upstream of split. ES5 14-Dec 1230? 11.20 7 - 23 13.9 FT Flow taken ~30m upstream of stream slit. Stream semi shallow, with small rapids. Flow taken downstream of local rapid, with minimal eddies present across section, smooth flow. Even bed surface with single deep section WS1 15-Dec 8.00 68-202 15.5 FT Large smooth flowing stream with high volume flow. Reading taken downstream of local rapids in local smooth section with uniform flow across section. WS2 15-Dec 8.45 32-96 14.5 FT Uneven bed surface throughout stream with stream made up of mostly local rapids and localised deep sections causing eddies. Reading taken on smoothest section found downstream of local rapid. WS3 15-Dec 09.40 1-4 14.6 FT Very small creek. High banks either side, so small could not spot where it entered into main stream. Had to track through bush to find it using GPS. Low flow, with partially undercutting steep stream banks either side. WS4 15-Dec 10.30 35-105 16.7 FT Wide flat section of river. Has high flows, with evidence of very high flows on bank. Gauging taken from smooth section, with even flat bed surface away from upstream rapid. Large boulders present in section with local deep sections. Note. FT = Flow tracker, Vol = volumetric, Est = estimated.
