Supporting Technical Assessments

APPENDIX B STOCKPILE EMBANKMENT STABILITY CALCULATIONS B1. PURPOSE Assess the proposed profile for geotechnical stability. B2. OBJECTIVES 1. Select geotechnical strength parameters for each material for the different loading cases. Consider peak drained strengths, peak undrained strengths, residual undrained strengths. 2. Consider maximum operational case for static and post-earthquake stability. Allow for lower strength material (Zone E and D3 strengths) in the centre of the stockpile with higher strengths (Zone D2) assigned at outer extents to meet stability criteria. 3. Assess earthquake displacements for maximum operational and closure profiles. 4. Assess stability for Sections 1 and 2 shown in plan on Drawing 0715 and cross section in Drawing 0716 and 0717 in the report and here in Appendix B on Figure B1. 5. Apply Morgenstern and Price stability calculation method with half sine interslice pressure distribution. 6. Review stability against industry standard geotechnical stability criteria.
