Waihi North Project Preliminary Site Investigation (Ground Contamination) Williamson Water & Land Advisory Limited 26 2.2.8 Coromandel Forest Park As noted previously, the Coromandel Forest Park (“the Park”) was not inspected due to its immense size and access constraints. Some 5.5 km of the Dual Tunnel and the WUG will be constructed beneath, and four ventilation raises will be constructed at ground level within, the Park. The Park is administered by the Department of Conservation3 and is predominantly native forest. The land in the Park to the north of and adjacent to the boundary with the Willows Road property slopes steeply up to a ridge line. Old mine workings and a former stamper battery (the Royal Standard battery) are recorded in this area approximately halfway up the ridge, as indicated on Figure 9. 3 Excepting unmade ‘paper’ roads, administered by the Hauraki District Council, within which four ventilation raises are proposed to be sited.
