Supporting Technical Assessments

June 2022 G-01483.84-017-R-Rev0 Because the 52 11.0 RECOMMENDATIONS Further geotechnical investigations are suggested to better define: ▪ The geomechanical properties of shallow clay soils in the vicinity of the toe of the WRS to assess the need to remove some or all of that material prior to placement of the WRS fill. ▪ Define the ground conditions at the proposed portal site for the Willows Access Tunnel and access road from the SFA. The following monitoring is recommended during the site development: ▪ Weekly monitoring is recommended to check for any deformation of the WRS during construction and when completed. This monitoring would comprise visual inspections to check for movement in the natural ground at the toe, and any movement evident in the WRS. Additional monitoring should include survey points at key locations on the WRS. The survey points would be measured daily to form a baseline, then less frequently based on the observed performance. ▪ Monitoring for any groundwater effects related to the WRS development. ▪ Sampling tunnel spoil to confirm waste rock characteristics during development. WRS closure once the rock fill is removed, monitoring and maintenance for a period until deemed a selfsustaining good pasture cover is established.
