126 6 For rainfall events with a return period less than or equal to ten years, all stormwater reporting to the collection ponds shall be pumped to the Water Treatment Plant for treatment. 7 The Water Treatment Plan collection pond shall have a spillway that will safely route a 100-year return period flood. 8 The Water Treatment Plant collection pond shall be constructed from, or lined with, materials which provide for secure long term containment and which: a. Have no acid forming potential; b. Is lined with 1.5 mm HDPE (or other similar synthetic liner approved by the Waikato Regional Council) to a height of 1.5m from the base, and with a 0.5 m protective cover layer. 9 Apart from exceptional circumstances, maintenance and desilting of Water Treatment Plant collection pond shall only occur during periods of projected fine weather. All silt for removal shall be disposed of to a tailings storage facility. 10 No chemicals or additives shall be used in the Water Treatment Plant collection pond or the discharge from those ponds without the prior written approval of the Waikato Regional Council. Discharges and Monitoring 11 The Consent Holder shall monitor the discharge from the Water Treatment Plant Collection Pond during any overflow event. Monitoring shall comprise the parameters described in Table 1: Table 1 – Water Treatment Plant Collection Pond Overflow Monitoring Parameters pH Conductivity Suspended solids Cyanide (WAD) Total ammonia Heavy metals (Iron, manganese, copper, nickel, zinc, silver, antimony, arsenic, selenium, cadmium, chromium (iv), lead and mercury.
