Site-specific Assessments of Environmental Effects

B-6 – Area 6 – Assessment of Environmental Effects 18 Figure 8: Heritage site T13/971 (Clough 2022). 2.11 TERRESTRIAL ECOLOGY The terrestrial ecology values attributed to Area 6 are described in Bioresearches (2022), a copy of which is provided in Part H of these application documents. As set out in sections 5.2 and 8.2 of the technical assessment by Bioresearches (2022), the ecological value of habitat within Area 6 is ‘Low’, noting that: The native vegetation located within Area 6 is mainly riparian plantings established voluntarily since around 2005 by OGNZL and its predecessor2. The plantings include kānuka, karo, cabbage tree, kauri, māhoe, tōtara, ribbonwood, flax, makomako, koromiko, karamū, and māpou; This planted native vegetation does not provide bat roosting habitat, nor have native bats been recorded in the nearby SNA166 or pine plantations; Surveys have not discovered any native lizards in Area 6 and the riparian plantings onsite are assessed as unlikely to provide habitat for skinks or arboreal lizards; and TB1 does not provide habitat for native frogs as noted in Section 5.2.2.1 of Bioresearches (2022). 2 Shown on Figure 8 ‘Planting years for areas around parts of the WNP’ in the Bioresearches Assessment of Terrestrial Ecological Values & Effects.
