Site-specific Assessments of Environmental Effects

B-1 - Area 1, Coromandel Forest Park – Assessment of Environmental Effects 49 3.2.8 Water Management 3.2.8.1 Water Use and Supply Water will be used for various underground mining operations, including: Tunnelling operations including jumbo drilling and watering down fired headings; Dust suppression on underground roads; and Underground diamond drilling. Recycled water harvested from tunnel water inflows will be used for tunnelling and underground dust control post construction. 3.2.8.2 Dewatering Water encountered during tunnel construction or mining operations will be drained to sumps. Water not recycled for drilling purposes will be pumped via the mine services to the WTP for treatment and discharge. Engineering controls, including sealing and grouting tunnels and shafts during development with grout or shotcrete, may be required to manage water ingress that has the potential to affect surface waters. The dewatering volume will increase as the tunnel is developed. At completion of tunnelling and prior to the commencement of mining, total tunnel inflows are expected to be up to 9,200 m³ per day. This volume includes the progressive sealing measures described above. During mining this volume is expected to increase to 15,000 m3/day. The mine dewatering system will be designed conservatively to manage water inflows up to 30,000 m3/day. 3.2.9 Environmental Monitoring Various environmental monitoring activities will be required, including, but not necessarily limited to: Meteorological weather stations; Rain gauges; Track counters; Surface water flow gauges and level loggers; Piezometers; and A telemetry system
