Site-specific Assessments of Environmental Effects

B-1 - Area 1, Coromandel Forest Park – Assessment of Environmental Effects 35 Development of new explosives magazines within the underground mine; Vegetation clearance, geotechnical drilling, construction and maintenance of ventilation shafts within the HDC legal road reserve within the CFP; Establishment of underground exploration facilities at the Wharekirauponga orebody and associated access drives; Exploration drilling and mining of the ore resource; The pumping of mine water to the Water Treatment Plant (”WTP”); and Transportation of the ore and rock utilising underground tunnels. Each of these elements are described in the sections below, along with an overview of the core operational components of the mine and details regarding its eventual closure. 3.2.2 Tunnel System The proposed WUG Tunnel is shown in Figure 19 with a long section at Figure 20, and within Area 1 will comprise: A Dual Tunnel with cross cuts from the approximate boundary of the CFP land to the Wharekirauponga orebody (approximately 5,500 m long); Multiple declines as the Dual Tunnel approaches the top of the Wharekirauponga orebody, for access to the lower portions of the orebody; Sumps, pumps, electrical equipment and ventilation infrastructure. Underground stockpiles along the length of the tunnel and sumps (640m). Refuge chambers and stockpiles at various junctures along the tunnel. Up to four (4) ventilation shafts each rising to the surface to be located on legal road reserve within the CFP (hereafter referred to as “Vent Shafts 2 – 5”). At least one of these shafts will also function as emergency egress from the mine.
