B-3 – Area 3 - Assessment of Environmental Effects 17 2.12 Hydrology The hydrology of the area is described in GHD (2022) a copy of which is provided in Part H of these application documents. Area 3 will pass under: The Walmsley Stream at Wharry Road. Three un-named tributaries of the Ohinemuri River located south of SH25. o Two of these flow west- east through nos. 266, 294 Waihi - Whangamatā Road, merge within 320 Waihi - Whangamatā Road and then discharge to the river via one of the northern allotments that make up no. 91 Mataura Road (Lot 1 DPS 75342). o The third tributary flows west-east through the most southerly of the allotments that comprise no. 91 Mataura Road (Part Section 99 Block XVI Ohinemuri SD). Tributaries of the Mataura Stream at nos. 69 and 98D Highland Road. The WRP includes the Walmsley Stream in the ‘Significant Trout Fisheries and Trout Habitat Water Class’ Water Management Class. The (un-named) tributaries are not subject to a particular WRP Water Management Class. These waterways all report to the Ohinemuri River, which flows west via the Karangahake Gorge to the Waihou River. The Wharekirauponga Access Tunnel will not be driven beneath the Ohinemuri River or the Mataura Stream. OGNZL operates the Frendrups Gauge in the Ohinemuri River near the Waihi SFA, from which river/stream flow variations and medians can be derived. Median flows (from the catchment of 50 km²) are recorded as 75,400 m³/day at the Frendrups Gauge. 2.13 WATER USERS GWS (2022a) note that three small diameter groundwater bores, likely used for stock or domestic drinking water supply, are within 400 m of Area 3. They are: Bore ID no. 72_5193; Bore ID no 72_771; and Bore ID no 72_1223.
