WSP (2022b) identifies the geology of the Wharekirauponga Valley as Whiritoa andesite on the eastern side, truncated by the Edmonds Fault that dips to the west. Whakamoehau andesite is located on the western side of the valley and is described as postmineralisation andesite and dacite with andesite tuff breccia and recent colluvial cover. The mineralised unit is described as the Edmonds Formation, composed of rhyolitic flows and lapilli tuff that is commonly hydrothermally altered. The mineralised rhyolitic volcanics are fault-bound and interpreted to be uplifted to some degree. 2.4.8 Water The hydrology and hydrogeology of Area 1 is described in sections 2.3 and 2.6 of GWS (2022), sections 2.2 and 2.3 of GWS (2022a) and section 3.2 of GHD (2022), which are provided in Part H of this application. The orebody within which underground mining would occur lies below the Wharekirauponga Stream sub-catchment which is a catchment of approximately 40 km². The Wharekirauponga sub-catchment is a component of the Otahu catchment, which is 71 km² and drains towards Whangamatā at the northeast via the Otahu River, as shown on Figure 10.
