B-2 – Area 2 - Assessment of Environmental Effects 36 3.3.4 Forward Drilling Program As construction of the tunnels advances holes will be drilled ahead of the development face. Retrieved drill cores will be oriented, boxed, and subjected to geological and geotechnical logging and analysis. The forward drilling will provide geotechnical and hydrogeological information for ground ahead of tunnelling to inform geotechnical and water management requirements for the corresponding length of tunnel. 3.3.5 Water Management Water encountered during tunnel construction or mining operations will be drained to sumps. Water not recycled for drilling purposes will be pumped via the mine services to the WTP for treatment and discharge. Engineering controls, including sealing and grouting tunnels and shafts during development with grout or shotcrete, may be required to manage water ingress that has the potential to affect surface waters. 3.3.6 Vent Shaft Construction Upon the Willows Access Tunnel development reaching the boundary between the Willows Road Farm and the CFP, Vent Shaft 1 will be constructed. Construction of the Dual Tunnel (Area 1) will also commence at this location. Vent Shaft 1 will be located within the Willows Road Farm, just south of the CFP boundary. Construction of Vent Shaft 1 will be carried out from the surface using a Raise Boring Machine. No vegetation clearance is proposed for the construction of Vent Shaft 1, however, some minor earthworks will be required to create a platform for the Raise Boring Machine. Access to Vent Shaft 1 will be via an existing farm track. Upon completion of the Vent Shaft 1, a vent stack, up to 8 m in height, will be installed and fenced.5 Ventilation fans will be installed in the shaft, beneath ground level. 3.4 HOURS OF WORK Activities may occur within Area 2 on a 24 hour / seven day per week basis subject to meeting specified noise limits. Those noise limits are likely to mean only a limited suite of low noise generating activities can be undertaken on Sundays and between 2200 and 0700 on Monday to Saturday. 5 The final height of the vent stack will be confirmed at the time of detailed design.
