B-1 - Area 1, Coromandel Forest Park – Assessment of Environmental Effects 127 That the scientific, educational, historic, cultural, recreational and amenity values of the zone are recognised;155 That further investigation of the location, type and extent of mineral resources is facilitated in a manner that is consistent with other objectives and policies of the zone;156 and, The adverse effects of prospecting, exploration and mining activities are avoided, remedied or mitigated.157 The associated policies158 seek to maintain the net total area of indigenous vegetation cover, minimise ground disturbance and avoid, remedy or mitigate the adverse effects of activities that have the potential to compromise, damage or destroy the indigenous ecosystems or the amenity values of adjacent land uses. In general accordance with these provisions: The HDP anticipates further exploration activities being established within the Conservation (Indigenous Forest) zone.159 The activities proposed within Area 1 will provide for the continued exploration of the mineral resource within this zone and in doing so, they will further provide for the social and economic wellbeing of Waihi and the Hauraki District as detailed in Sections 7.2 and 7.3 of the Overarching AEE; Due to the underground nature of the WUG, landscape, natural character and visual effects within the CFP are largely avoided, protecting the outstanding natural landscape. Similarly, the surface expressions of the ventilation shafts will be sensitively sited along a paper road and combined with their comparably diminutive scale, will ensure the characteristics and values of the outstanding natural landscape will remain;160 For the reasons set out in Section 7.5.1.3 with respect to the RPS and Section 7.6.2.2 with respect to the HDP, the biological diversity values of the Conservation Zone will be protected and enhanced; 161 As described with respect to Policy 8 of the NPSFM, no direct physical modification to existing streams or rivers will arise as a result of activities occurring within Area 1. Similarly, the effects of dewatering within the WUG and associated dual tunnels will not give rise to any adverse effects of water and soil values that is more than minor. 155 Objective 3, Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan. 156 Objective 5, Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan. 157 Objective 6, Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan. 158 Policies 3(a)(ii), (iii) and 4(a)(ii), Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan. 159 Objective 5, Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan. 160 Objectives 1, 3 and 4, Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan. 161 Objective 1, Section 5.2 of the Hauraki District Plan.
