Site-specific Assessments of Environmental Effects

B-1 - Area 1, Coromandel Forest Park – Assessment of Environmental Effects 120 The grouting techniques proposed as part of the WNP (including the type of grouting used) is based on existing grouting techniques that have been widely used and tested throughout the mining industry. Such activities are therefore not expected to result in leaching of contaminants; and, The discharges will occur underground. Therefore no river bed or bank erosion effects will arise as a result of non-point discharges. Accordingly, non-point discharges associated with activities will not be inconsistent with the policy directives set out in Policy 1, Section 3.9 (noting that matters with respect tangata whenua are addressed in Section 5 of the Overarching AEE). 7.6.1.5 Damming / Diverting The outcomes sought for the damming and diverting of water are described in Objective 3.6.2 and associated Policy 2. These provisions collectively seek that damming and diversion (as relevant): Does not generate adverse effects that are inconsistent with the water management objectives in Section 3.1.2 or associated surface water policies in Section 3.2.3;107 Results in no increase in the adverse effects of flooding or land instability hazards;108 and, Take account of the consequent loss of water quality and any associated reduction in contaminant assimilative capacity, minimum flows and allocable flows for out of stream uses.109 In accordance with these directives: Sections 7.6.1.2 and 7.6.1.3 considers the effects of diversion activities with respect to the objectives and policies within Sections 3.1.2 and 3.2.3; 110 Activities within Area 1 will not result in an increase in flooding or land instability effects; 111 As set out in Section 7.4.1, the mining methodologies developed within the WUG will ensure that the diversion of water does not result changes to the surface waterbodies within the CFP (with the exception of the loss of the warm spring). Accordingly, the diversion will not result in a reduction in surface water quality, contaminant 107 Objective 3.6.2 (a), Section 3.6, Waikato Regional Plan. 108 Objective 3.6.2 (d), Section 3.6, Waikato Regional Plan. 109 Objective 3.6.2 (g), Section 3.6, Waikato Regional Plan. 110 Objective 3.6.2 (a) and (b), Waikato Regional Plan. 111 Objective 3.6.2 (d), Waikato Regional Plan.
