B-1 - Area 1, Coromandel Forest Park – Assessment of Environmental Effects 118 effect on any existing groundwater abstraction, waterbodies (excluding the natural spring) or habitats within the overlying CFP or any other aquifers (refer to Sections 5.3 and 5.4 of this AEE). No discernible contamination effects are expected to arise either with respect to the drilling and dewatering methodologies adopted on site. In accordance with Objective 3.3.2, sufficient water will therefore remain within the catchment to meet the needs of existing and reasonably foreseeable domestic, municipal and animal drinking water requirements; to safeguard the life supporting capacity of freshwater and to meet the future social and economic needs of individuals and communities. The water take will also avoid further degradation of water quality and the assimilative capacity of water bodies. 7.6.1.4 Discharges to water Objective 3.5.2 of the WRP seeks that discharges of contaminants to water be undertaken in a manner that (as relevant to Area 1): does not have adverse effects that are inconsistent with the water management objectives in Section 3.1.2;99 does not have adverse effects that are inconsistent with the discharges onto or into land objectives in Section 5.2.2;100 and ensures that decisions regarding the discharge of contaminants to water do not reduce the contaminant assimilative capacity of the water body to the extent that allocable flows as provided for in Chapter 3.3 are unable to be utilised for out of stream uses. 101 Policy 2 of Section 3.5.3 follows a similar theme as Objective 3.5.2 and seeks that adverse effects of more than minor discharges on surface waterbodies that are inconsistent with the policies in Section 3.2.3 of the WRP are avoided, as far as practicable, and otherwise remedied or mitigated. Likewise, it seeks that the discharges do not cause signif icant adverse effects from flooding, erosion or downstream siltation. Policy 5 of Section 3.5.3 is specific to discharges into land and seeks that the adverse effects of those discharges on groundwater quality be minimised by ensuring that they do not compromise existing or reasonably foreseeable uses of groundwater, and avoid as far as practicable, adverse effects on surface waterbodies that are inconsistent with the policies in Section 3.2.3 of the WRP (and otherwise, remedy or mitigate those effects). 99 Objective 3.5.2 (a), Section 3.5, Waikato Regional Plan. 100 Objective 3.5.2 (b), Section 3.5, Waikato Regional Plan. 101 Objective 3.5.2 (c), Section 3.5, Waikato Regional Plan.
