Site-specific Assessments of Environmental Effects

B-1 - Area 1, Coromandel Forest Park – Assessment of Environmental Effects 84 6. MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING OF EFFECTS Section 5 of this sub-AEE provides an assessment of the actual and potential effects of the activities in Area 1, which is based on the various technical assessments commissioned by OGNZL. It is noted that many of the technical assessments have recommended the implementation of various measures in order to assist in avoiding, remedying or mitigating potential adverse effects from the activities on the environment. These recommendations have shaped the development of the suite of management and monitoring measures that are proposed as conditions on the resource consents that are being sought by OGNZL. A copy of the proffered consent conditions is provided in Part E of these application documents. Notably these conditions are similar to those which are already adhered by OGNZL under existing Access Arrangements with DOC. There are four key aspects to those conditions, namely: A suite of conditions which control the establishment of the four vent shaft sites; A suite of conditions which have been drafted to ensure the WNP has a net positive effect on Archey’s frog; A suite of conditions which have been drafted to ensure the activities are undertaken in a manner which will not have a measurable effect on surface water flows within the various natural state streams in the area in which activities will occur; and A suite of conditions which commit OGNZL to developing and implementing the Waihi North Biodiversity Project in partnership with tangata whenua, and potentially other key stakeholders. 6.1 THE VENT RAISE CONDITIONS The effects associated with the establishment and operation of the vent raise sites will be very small and localised. They will be similar in nature to those associated with establishment of OGNZL’s various exploration drilling sites in this area which are managed effectively in accordance with a range of conditions imposed by the DOC. It is proposed that those proven methods be also applied to the proposed activities, and they form the basis of many of the proposed conditions. Key aspects of those conditions include: A requirement that suitably qualified ecologist(s) undertake pre-clearance ecological survey of the proposed vent raise locations; A requirement that a site may only be used if the pre-clearance survey finds it meets strict criteria in terms of the lizards, frogs and vegetation present; A requirement to translocating various at risk fauna;
