The Reefton mine is located seven kilometres southeast of the Township of Reefton, a historic mining district in the West Coast region of New Zealand’s South Island. The Reefton operation commenced production in 2007 and in early 2016 transitioned into care and maintenance. In December 2016, the Company announced it would commence closure and rehabilitation of the Reefton mine site.
Working with the New Zealand Department of Conservation, OceanaGold has demonstrated its commitment to strong environmental management practices. The Reefton Rehabilitation Project commenced in 2004, and the restored area now encompasses 30.6 hectares of land.
